PlayStation 3
Oh yes, it's true; cross-game voice chat is confirmed for the PlayStation 3.
At first came the text messaging chat rooms, but that damned cross game voice chat was always missing from the PlayStation Network. Xbox LIVE always had the one-up here and PS3 users never thought they'd get it.
But now, this feature is on its way to the PS3 in its next firmware update.
Guess who leaked it. Naughty Dog, the guys who have just released one of the best games of the year, if not of all time.
In response to the multiplayer feature of spectating your own dead body in Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Naughty Dog's ReklissAbandon replies on the
Official PlayStation forums:
"I think they wanted people to have fun and enjoy the show since all dead players can talk to each other no matter what team you are on. But I will suggest it anyway.
"Not to mention that the next PS3 firmware update is going to allow cross game chat. So if players use that instead of in game communication then they would also be able to communicate enemies positions."
And there you have it. Cross game voice chat is finally coming to the PlayStation Network.
[UPDATE] - We have been informed that ReklissAbandon was simply a Q&A games tester for Naughty Dog. Whether this reduces their reliability is up to you.
However, we tend to believe that since this forum poster has been awarded the Naughty Dog Developer tag on his PlayStation Forum user name, and is answering questions on their behalf, there is a very good chance that not only does he know inside information, but that he would be reluctant to lie.
